Fantastic Edutainment Toy December 26, 2008 A friend said his daughter (10) wanted a microscope and I suggested that he consider the Eyeclops instead. Then I realized that I hadn't reviewed it. [I mention this so you know that I really like the Eyeclops; enough to recommend it to friends]
=============== Last year my SIL bought this for the children and I have to say the whole family has used it and enjoyed it. My husband has used it to read tiny inscriptions on jewelry. I've used it in conjunction with the kids' science unit on crystals -- we looked at salt and sugar. And, of course, we've used it to look at untold numbers of warts, moles, freckles and scabs.
To use it you just take it out of the box and plug it into the television. What you see is a magnified image on the television screen. This ability to share is something you can't do with most moderately priced microscopes. The picture is in color, although every once in awhile it will be in black and white. We haven't figured out why that happens but it's usually fixed by jiggling the connections.
Magnification-wise there's not a great many options, but you can go up to about four hundred which is good enough for youngsters to learn more about the world around them. It's a cool edu-tainment toy ... and it's a heck of alot easier to look at scabs if you don't have to cut them off your body and put them on a slide :)

educational AND fun!! November 28, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This little gizmo is a real find. We deliberated over getting the multi-zoom but now that its arrived our reservations are quelled. As the previous reviewer pointed out this actually does more for less!! Retailers seem to be slightly confused over this and thank goodeness, this is a bargain quality toy. The play/educational value is almost endless, not just for children either. Everything we seem pick up about the house now gets a quick inspection under the eyeclops. Fun AND educational, you bet!
Brilliant toy, fantastic quality. November 25, 2008 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
When this arrived, I had a good feeling about it from just looking at the box. Well packaged, littered with statements about various awards it has won, and the actual microscope looked solid, well build and begging to be taken out of the box! It was incredibly easy to set up and took no time at all to start viewing all sorts of various things. The 3 different zoom functions are a real bonus -especially when the fixed zoom EYeclops is retailing for over 50! My children were totally captivated by looking at the detail in a feather and soon were running all over the house finding different things to "look" at. It also has a few unexpected uses too! My brother inlaw lost a contact lens on the carpet - Eyeclops found it much faster than we might have done. It has also been very useful in making my children have a little less fear and a bit more respect for creepy crawlies. After viewing them close up, they have been really interested in seeing all their little legs, feelers etc. and has made them seem exciting rather than scary. It really is fascinating to watch how my children respond to seeing so many everyday objects in totally new ways. I had wondered if this would be a half hour wonder. After owning it for a couple of weeks, we are all still amazed at it and I have a feeling it could be responsible for our youngest wanting a career in biology!
